FROM THE GENERAL MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 27, 2010 |

7 members were present: Nadine Charlsen, Corrie Griffin, Karen Hart, Jong H. Kim, Arnold Levine, Adele Recklies, Stanley Sherman, and Anne-Marie Wright. Arnold called the meeting to order at 7:20 p.m. at his studio. ELECTIONS: Arnold announced the results of the election: NEWSLETTER: Arnold brought up the question of whether or not the newsletter needs to be on paper? Stanley pointed out that the paper version is nice but an online newsletter is cheaper and much easier to put together. He asked if there was money to cover some materials or computer programs that he pays for himself right now. Nadine asked about sending a notice asking members for submissions. Stanley said that in his experience a notice doesn’t work and sometimes he gets stories by talking directly with members. Discussion ensued about whether we should put the newsletter on the web for everyone to see. Stanley thought doing so would bring more members. Adele argued that there needs to be member-only features to get people to join. Karen suggested that we put up some parts of the newsletter on the web as a teaser and have the rest of the articles for members. Anne-Marie suggested that we start with the question of paper or electronic version. Nadine moved that we go to a PDF form, Karen seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. FACEBOOK: The next issue raised was how can we use Facebook to get some of the people who like the ATAC page to join ATAC. What would entice them to join ATAC? Nadine suggested that we have an online or newsletter membership category for out-of-town members. Karen asked if we could have an online portfolio section on the website for out-of-town members? The question was raised as to what online members would get? Anne-Marie suggested the networking opportunities. Nadine said that we are sitting on a goldmine of talent and information but need to get more members so that we have enough people to take on tasks for the organization. Nadine and Arnold said that it is time to network with USITT again. Nadine pointed out that we need to follow up on Jong’s suggestion that we make ourselves available to graduating college students. She added that we should do the Broadway Cares flea market again to raise our profile. Arnold mentioned that we could do ShowBiz Expo but the timing is bad because we don’t have copies of either the new or old Sourcebook and a booth costs $1500. MEMBERSHIP: Anne-Marie brought up the disconnect between the online application and her role as membership chairwoman. Right now, Anne-Marie doesn’t get a copy of the prospective member’s application, Cindy gets a check, and no one really has an idea of who is a member.

ONLINE MEMBERSHIP: Arnold suggested that we should ask people what they would like in a membership if they aren’t in the New York area. Would out-of-town members need to show us a portfolio? What about a high school student who has no portfolio yet? Corrie thought a portfolio was needed to maintain standards for full members. Karen suggested a subscriber category, junior membership, or separate student membership. It was suggested that a student membership allow access to the newsletter and website but would not entail showing us a portfolio. The current associate membership allows access to newsletter and website and the opportunity to show a portfolio. It give new craftspeople a chance to save some money. DONATIONS: Nadine explained about a new website called www.indiegogo.com that lets people post projects and solicit donations. She wondered if there was some way for ATAC to use the site. SOURCEBOOK: The latest edition is at the printers and will be out in October. WEBSITE: Anne-Marie said that the first priority is to have a meeting with Marty to discuss the website. Nadine offered her apartment as a meeting place. It was decided that it would be good to hold the website meeting before the next ATAC general meeting. Nadine asked Corrie and Jong to write up profiles of themselves as new members and send them to Marty for the website. Adele suggested that they also send them to Stanley for the newsletter. AMAZON: Nadine said that she will post a reminder on the Facebook ATAC page that we get a percentage of anything that people buy from Amazon if they go through www.entertainmentsourcebook.com. NEXT MEETING: Corrie moved that the next general meeting be on January 10, Nadine seconded the motion, and it passed unanimously. YAHOO GROUP: It was mentioned that some people might not be getting the Yahoo posts. FUTURE OF ATAC: The question was raised as to whether our mission is still networking, etc. as laid out in the by-laws? Karen, still thinking about new members, wondered about offering some kind of award to an outstanding student organization or school program. Arnold asked how do we find applicants? Nadine suggested we start with Facebook. Arnold said that it would be nice to support little groups. Anne-Marie suggested we look at the Rising Stars program at Paper Mill Playhouse to see their criteria. JUNG K. GRIFFITH: Arnold said that she sent a note saying that her thesis production of "Uncle Vanya" will be mounted in October and she will graduate in May. Nadine suggested that we send her a ‘break a leg’ note on official ATAC stationery. TREASURY: Arnold said that we have about $2200 in the bank and have some bills to pay. We haven’t gotten a check from Applause since February of 2008. Cindy called Applause about the matter and they said that someone will get back to us. Arnold showed the members the royalty statement from 3-31-2009 but no one could make sense of it. The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted by Adele Recklies. |
